Carlisle
Carlisle

Carlisle is a city and the county of Cumbria and is only 10 miles south of the Scottish border in England. Due to its positioning Carlisle became the stronghold for Roman military serving Hadrian’s Wall. Carlisle Castle, built by William Rufus in 1092, is a poignant feature in the city and once imprisoned Mary Queen of Scots. It is now the home of the Duke of Lancaster’s Regiment and the Border Regiment museum. Other attractions here are Carlisle Cathedral – the smallest cathedral in England, Tullie House Museum and Art Gallery, Solway Aviation Museum and Rickerby Park.
