Kirkbean is a village in Dumfries & Galloway, Scotland. Close to the Solway Firth, Kirkbean is a quaint estate village, developed for the Arbigland Estate, a collection of white cottages which are serviced by Kirkbean Parish Church and Kirkbean School. Views of the Solway Firth can be seen from the Steamboat Inn at the nearby village of Carsethorn, which was first settled by the Vikings who fished the Solway Firth. Kirkbean is perhaps best known for being the home of John Paul Senior & birth place of his son, John Paul Jones - a famous US naval hero during the American Revolution, people came to view him as the father of the US Navy. His life and career are remembered in the John Paul Jones Museum and a tribute is made when a hotel is named after him, the Paul Jones Hotel is situated in nearby Southerness.
