Ashbourne, a market town set within the Derbyshire Dales in England. It is situated between the southern Peak District and Dovedale and so is known as ‘The Gateway to the Peak District’ & ‘The Gateway to Dovedale’. The town itself has changed little since the 18th century and has a colourful past, it has even been graced by the young princess Victoria, before she became Queen. Born here, Catherine Booth - known as the ‘mother of the Salvation Army’ and wife of William Booth – founder of the Salvation Army. The famous two day annual Shrovetide event is held here, a football game which sees the town split in two to play against each other, a game in which Charles Prince of Wales has supported.
