Cockermouth is a market town in Cumbria, England. It is situated on the outskirts of the Lake District National Park at the confluence of the River Cocker and the River Derwent. It has a long history with the Romans – who built the fort of Deventio at Papcastle and the Normans – who built Cockermouth Castle, but Robert the Bruce and his attacks left little of the castle. Tourists are attracted to the towns rich past, Wordsworth House – the birth place of William Wordsworth and Wordsworth memorial, now in the care of the National Trust, can be found in the main street. Jennings Brewery, Kirkgate Centre for Art, Theatre, Film & Music and Banks Ironmongers & Museum of Ancient Artifacts.
