Dumfries is a town within Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland. Situated at the mouth of the River Nith into the Solway Firth. The town has been home to two of Scotland’s most prominent figures, Bonnie Prince Charlie, although only for a short while and Robert Burns – of which there is a statue in front of Grey Friars Church in the town centre. Dumfries & Galloway offer such diversity in landscape and culture and therefore is a popular tourist hub for the southern up-lands of Scotland and surrounding area. Hills, rivers, streams, shores and forest park all set the scene for walkers and cyclists to explore. Castles are a plenty, Castle of St John, Drumlanrig Castle, Morton Castle, Threave Castle, Caerlaverock and Cardoness should keep any visitor busy. There is also Dumfries & Galloway Aviation Museum, Robert Burns Centre & Robert Burns House, Dumfries Museum & Camera Obscura, Old Bridge House Museum and Gracefield Arts Centre to see when in town.
