Holystone
Holystone
Holystone is a small village within Northumberland, England. On the bank of the River Coquet, Holystone lies just within Northumberland National Park. The focal point of the village is the Holy Well, Known as Lady’s Well after the Anglo Saxon Saint Ninian. It is marked with a stone cross and is where the villages’ water supply originally came and hundreds of Christian baptisms took place. The Village, one of great intrigue, was originally built out of a medieval nunnery and part of four townships and incorporating the communities of Harbottle, Woodhill, Dues Hill, Yardhope, Lanternside and Woodhouses – which echo the violent past of the Border Reivers rule.
