Kendal

Kendal is a town within Cumbria, England. One of the larger towns in the county and southern gateway to the Lake District, just 9 miles from Windermere and 30 miles from Keswick, Kendal has become a tourist. The town is also known for producing tobacco since 1987, first introduced by Thomas Harrison and Kendal Mint Cake which was discovered by Joseph Wiper in his search for clear glacier mint. The Romans also occupied Kendal and there was a fort and artefacts from here are exhibited in the Kendal Museum. The majority of buildings are made from the locally extracted grey limestone, giving the town its nickname ‘the auld grey town’. The Abbot Hall Art Gallery, Museum of Lakeland Life, Castle Howe, Kendal Castle, and Kendal Parish Church are all worth a visit. Kendal is Eco Cycle Adventures friendly.
