Kirkcowan is a village in Wigtownshire, Scotland. Situated between two rivers, the River Tarf & River Bladnoch, Kirkcowan covers an a vast area of moorland in Machars of Wigtownshire. The Machars attract a variety of visitors including walkers & hikers and cyclists are well catered for by Kirkcowan Cycles, the bounding rivers attract fishermen and access to Kirkcowan is made easy by the Stranraer to Carlisle bus route and the A75 road which is the London – Belfast route, with ferry links to Ireland nearby at Loch Ryan Port in Cairnryan, Dumfries & Galloway. Glendarroch Loch is another attraction for the keen fishermen, the Loch is rich with large head of roach, rudd, perch, tench & bream and carp in more recent times. The remains of Loch Maberry Castle Crannog and the wall which surrounded it are still evident, marooned on Loch Maberry and nearby is Linn Wood and the Waterfall at Linn of Barhoise. The village itself is serviced by Kirkcowan Parish Church, Kirkcowan village pub, the Craighlaw Arms, Kirkcowan Town Hall & Post Office/General Store.
