Locharbriggs
Locharbriggs
Locharbriggs is a town within Dumfries & Galloway, Scotland. A former village, Locharbriggs has flourished from the extensive quarrying of sought after red sandstone. The red sandstone has been used for buildings in two of Scotland’s main cities, Edinburgh & Glasgow as well as Dumfries, but has even reached the shores of America when it was used to build steps to the Statue of Liberty. Locharbriggs is close to Lochar Water & Lochar Moss, a prominent feature in the area and was first used as a natural moat to protect Dumfries, but later served the area providing it with fuel material and housing insulation. Today, Lochar Moss is a Forestry Commision Scotland Wood and provides beautiful walking. Big employers in the area are Locharbriggs Coldstore LTD and Locharbriggs Quarry. Also here is the Locharbriggs Chinese Takeaway, The Lochar Inn and Locharbriggs Social Club.
