Lockerbie
Lockerbie
Lockerbie is a town in Dumfries & Galloway, Scotland. It is situated 25 miles from the border. Sadly, the town is known internationally as the victim of a terrorist attack when the Pan Am flight 103 was rigged with a bomb and came down in the town in 1998. There is a memorial garden nearby at Dryfesdale Cemetery, a tribute to those who lost their lives in the disaster and Dryfesdale Lodge Visitors Centre Trust, established in October 2005, is fitting tribute not only to those who lost their lives but the community of Lockerbie and their tremendous strength during that terrible time. In the town, there is the Lockerbie indoor ice rink which plays host to regular curling events and the Drysfesdale Town Parish Church which sits just north of the centre. Since 1700’s, Lockerbie has been home to the largest sheep market in Scotland and hosts monthly Lockerbie Farmers Market.
