Port William
Port William
Port William is a village in Wigtownshire, Scotland. A fishing village, Port William is situated on the southern-most tip of Scotland on the eastern shore of Luce Bay, with beautiful views across Mull of Galloway. Port William is an example of a planned village built by Sir William Maxwell and the harbour was one of the first built in eastern Galloway, dating back to 1770. Nearby are the ruins of Myrton Castle, which are situated next to the Monrieth Estate Offices which lie on the banks of the White Loch near Monrieth House, which was was another of Sir William’s Builds and his family home. The harbour has played a significant role in the shaping of Port William and it is no more evident than in the bronze statue of a man leaning over the railing at Harbour Green, sculpted by Andrew Brown who was born and raised in the village. Port William is popular for Garnets Way - an on & off-road walk, Port William Bowling Green, Port William Tennis Courts and for the parks and play areas at Maxwell Park and Millennium Cross.
